Eby condemns Vancouver speech praising Hamas attack as ‘most hateful’ ever
B.C. Premier David Eby, along with other politicians, has condemned the remarks made at a demonstration in Vancouver where protesters chanted “long live Oct. 7” in support of the attacks by Hamas on Israel.
During the rally outside the Vancouver Art Gallery on April 26, a speaker praised the attacks by Hamas that resulted in the deaths of about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, calling them “heroic and brave.” Mr. Eby described the speech as “the most hateful” he could imagine.
Mr. Eby, speaking at an unrelated news conference, emphasized that it is “completely unacceptable” to celebrate the murder and assault of innocent civilians.
Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim also denounced the speech, labeling it a “celebration of terrorism and antisemitism” in a social media post, stating that those who promote such hatred are not welcome in the city.
Liberal member for Vancouver Granville Taleeb Noormohamed echoed these sentiments in a social media post, emphasizing that “glorifying Oct. 7 is unacceptable” and does not contribute to peace. B.C. Opposition Leader Kevin Falcon described the speech as a “celebration of the heinous murder of Jews.”
