Edmonton Home Identifies Child Killed by Dogs

An 11-year-old boy who was killed after an attack by two large dogs at a home in Edmonton has been identified as Kache Grist.
A GoFundMe campaign has raised over $22,400 as of April 5 for funeral costs for the young boy, with a goal of $40,000 overall. The campaign organiser says the family does not have the means to pay for the funeral expenses and other associated costs for the 11-year-old victim.

The fundraiser is on behalf of the grandmother of Kache, who posted on Facebook April 2 to identify that it was her grandson who had died in the attack.

“Yesterday was the worst day of my life the young 11 year old boy that is being talked about all over the news that was killed by 2 dogs is my Grandchild,” she said and spoke of how funny and creative the 11-year-old had been.

“U were so strong u helped me so much. U made me laugh u oh u were so funny. U were so creative and I loved every moment we spent together. RIP my little boo-boo,” she said.

The attack took place on the night of March 1 at a home on the south side of Edmonton, where the two dogs attacked young Kache who was visiting the home and severely injured him. He died as a result of his injuries.

Police did not describe the breed of the two dogs involved in the attack, simply stating that the two dogs were large. The dogs were seized from the home after the boy had died and were in the city’s Animal Care and Control centre.

An April 4 press release from Edmonton Police stated that the two dogs belonged to a roommate of the victim’s father and that an autopsy found the cause of death to be dog bite.

It is unclear whether or not the owner of the dogs will be charged in connection with the death of the 11-year-old. Police declined to say whether or not charges were being considered in the case.

Communications adviser Chris Webster had previously noted that there had been prior complaints about dogs linked to the home where the attack took place, and that while one complaint had not been met with charges, another was still under investigation.

Another horrific attack involving dogs in Canada took place in March as well: An off-leash dog in a Toronto park attacked and maimed a young child. In that case, 38-year-old Patrycja Siarek, the owner of the dogs, was arrested by Toronto Police in connection with the incident.
Director of Toronto Animal Services Dr. Esther Attard told The Epoch Times that there were around 450 dogs under the city’s Dangerous Dog Order (DDO), a local law that demands dangerous dogs be kept from off-leash areas and commits owners to providing a photo of the dog for city files as well as conducting socialisation and obedience training.
