Employees at Quebec Plant of Airbus Decline Third Contract Proposal
Workers who are part of a union at an Airbus assembly plant north of Montreal have now rejected a contract offer for the third time.
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, representing approximately 1,300 employees at the Mirabel, Que. facility, reported that nearly 70 per cent of its members voted against the proposed agreement.
Union spokesperson Éric Rancourt expressed that negotiators believed they had reached a satisfactory deal for members, but the latest vote indicates otherwise.
Earlier this month, workers decisively turned down a second offer from the employer, with nearly all of them in favor of strike action.
The proposed contract spanned five years and included an initial wage increase of eight per cent in the first year, with subsequent annual increases of three or four per cent.
Airbus had previously stated its commitment to achieving a new collective agreement that is equitable for both sides while ensuring the lasting success of the A220 aircraft assembled at the plant.
