End of Delay: Credit Unions in Prairies Now Enjoy Restored Service for Automatic Deposits and Payments
A network outage affected credit unions across the prairies on Nov. 15, causing delays in automatic deposits and payments for customers in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba for several hours.
Several credit unions in the three provinces provided updates on their websites regarding the early morning outage, with most reporting service restoration by early afternoon.
Manitoba
The advisory from Access Credit Union in Manitoba explained that the payment services vendor for most credit unions in the Prairies experienced a network issue on Nov. 15, resulting in delays in automatic deposits and fund withdrawals for loan payments.
As of 12:45 p.m., payments had started processing again, with the assurance that they will continue without further delays as long as funds are available. Customers affected by the outage were encouraged to reach out for reimbursement if they incurred any NSF charges.
An afternoon update from Assiniboine Credit Union in Winnipeg, posted on their website, mentioned that connectivity had been restored and deposits and payments were expected to start processing that afternoon.
Saskatchewan
Affinity Credit Union in Saskatchewan also addressed the outage, stating that it had caused delays in direct deposits, cheque clearing, and wire transactions.
An update mentioned that delayed direct deposits were being credited to member accounts over the next few hours.
Conexus also confirmed the resolution of the hardware issue and the processing of payments, ensuring that members will receive their payments with no further delays.
“We can now confirm the hardware issue has been fixed and that payments are processing,” Conexus said. “Members will start to see payments in their accounts, and the processing will continue until all payments are made today.”
Alberta
Servus, Alberta’s largest credit union, announced via social media that direct deposits were delayed, but later confirmed that the issue had been resolved and all scheduled transactions would be processed later in the day. They also committed to covering any fees incurred.
ABCU Credit Union stated that they were not affected by the outage due to using a different service provider but cautioned that payments from impacted credit unions might face delays.
“Rest assured, no late fees or penalties will be charged by ABCU Credit Union as a result of this disruption,” the credit union assured its customers.
