Energy Sector Expresses Optimism Following Liberal Federal Election Victory

The association representing Canada’s oil and gas service contractors has outlined its key priorities for the Liberal government in Ottawa, which retained power in Monday’s federal election.

The Canadian Association of Energy Contractors indicates that both the Liberals and Conservatives acknowledged the necessity of expanding oil and gas development during their campaign.

The organization urges Canada to quickly enhance infrastructure initiatives that bolster the country’s energy and economic stability, as well as eliminate the federal cap on emissions.

The association also requested the government to abolish “greenwashing” laws that restrict how companies communicate their environmental performance and to expedite indigenous involvement in energy initiatives.

Throughout the campaign, Liberal Leader Mark Carney stated that his party would simplify project assessments while maintaining the industrial carbon levy, emissions cap, and review legislation.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre proposed that his party would eliminate all such measures and create designated corridors where pipelines and other critical infrastructure could be pre-approved.
