Engineer from Haiti appointed as the upcoming Senator from Quebec
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has appointed a civil engineer from Haiti as the newest senator from Quebec.
Suze Youance will serve as an independent member in the Senate.
After moving to Canada from Haiti in 2006, Youance had been involved in Canadian aid projects in Port-au-Prince for over a decade.
She settled in Montreal, where she taught at the École de technologie supérieure and currently serves as the president of the Haitian Community Office in Montreal, offering various forms of support.
Youance is the 76th senator named by Trudeau since he took office in 2015.
