Ex-Canadian Politician Lambasts The New York Times for Allegedly Planning Negative Article on Shen Yun
Former Ontario lawmaker Jack MacLaren told The Epoch Times that Shen Yun is doing “a fantastic job” and criticized The New York Times for targeting it with negative articles. MacLaren attended the classical Chinese dance performance at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa on April 15 and expressed his admiration for Shen Yun, highlighting the importance of preserving Chinese culture before communism took over.
Shen Yun, a nonprofit dance company founded in 2016 by Chinese artists who escaped communist oppression, aims to revive traditional Chinese culture through its performances. MacLaren commended the company’s efforts to educate the world about Chinese history before the communist regime took hold, emphasizing the significance of remembering these cultural roots.
Shen Yun incorporates classical Chinese dance to tell stories from ancient myths to contemporary events in China. The company does not shy away from addressing the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, shedding light on the atrocities committed by the CCP.
‘They Should Not Be Doing That’
In scrutinizing Shen Yun, The New York Times reportedly sought out former artists with potential grudges against the company, indicating biased motives. Despite these challenges, Shen Yun continues to defy Beijing’s intimidation tactics, inspiring audiences worldwide with its narrative of China’s cultural heritage.
‘Wonderful Moral Values’
MacLaren commended Shen Yun’s dedication to preserving Chinese culture and emphasized the importance of traditional values like truth, compassion, and tolerance—core tenets of Falun Gong. He underscored the universal relevance of these values, transcending national boundaries and offering valuable moral lessons to people worldwide.
Amid challenges from the CCP, Shen Yun continues to grow and reach audiences globally, striving to convey the rich heritage of Chinese civilization before communist suppression. MacLaren expressed hope that China’s cultural legacy and moral values would endure, transcending present political obstacles.
