Ex-Trump Ambassador to Israel Praises Huckabee as Ideal Pick for US Envoy to Jewish State
Former envoy David Friedman praised Mike Huckabee’s nomination as the new U.S. ambassador to Israel by President-elect Donald Trump, calling it a “great” pick.
Speaking to Epoch TV’s “American Thought Leaders,” Friedman expressed his excitement about the nomination and highlighted the importance of Huckabee’s role in fostering the relationship between the United States and Israel during a crucial time.
After the tragic terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel, Friedman commended Huckabee’s unwavering support for the country, describing it as “absolutely rock solid.”
Trump, in a statement on Nov. 12, lauded Huckabee’s dedication to Israel and expressed confidence in his ability to work towards peace in the Middle East.
If confirmed by the Senate, Huckabee will navigate various challenges in the region, including the Israel–Hamas war, the Israel–Hezbollah conflict, the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, and addressing the Iranian threat. Additionally, he aims to expand the Abraham Accords, which normalized agreements between Israel and several Arab countries during the Trump administration.
Friedman also predicted that Saudi Arabia would join the Abraham Accords under the new administration, emphasizing the potential benefits of the kingdom’s participation in fostering peace and countering threats in the region.
While Saudi Arabia has expressed its commitment to establishing a Palestinian state as a condition for normalizing ties with Israel, Friedman highlighted the complex dynamics and risks associated with such a state in the region.
The previous Trump administration, led by Friedman as ambassador, pursued a pro-Israel agenda that included various initiatives to strengthen the country’s position in the region.
