Ex-UK Prime Minister Scheduled to Address CPAC Australia in October
CPAC organisers expressed their excitement in announcing Liz Truss as a speaker.
Former UK Prime Minister and member of Parliament Liz Truss will be making a public appearance in Australia, speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conferences (CPAC) Australia event.
The event will take place at the Sofitel Hotel Brisbane on Oct. 5-6, and CPAC Australia National Director Andrew Cooper shared his thrill and honor in having Truss as a speaker, alongside many other notable speakers.
“We are pleased to announce that the Honourable Liz Truss, Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, will be speaking at CPAC events for her only public appearance in Australia,”
Other distinguished speakers at the event will include the Hon. Senator Bridget McKenzie from Victoria, Senator Alex Antic from South Australia, Indigenous leader Warren Mundine, British Comedian Leo Kearse, and more.
Truss held the position of UK Prime Minister from September to October 2022, making her the shortest UK Primer Minister in British history.
She is a member of the Conservative Party and has served in various government roles, including foreign secretary, international trade secretary, and chief secretary to the treasury.
In a letter discussing the upcoming CPAC conference, Cooper highlighted the challenges Truss faced during her short tenure as prime minister, both economically and politically.
He mentioned that her bold policy proposals encountered opposition within her party and public criticism from external interests, leading to a swift and difficult end to her leadership.
Cooper reflected on the nature of politics, noting, “Her early departure emphasized the often-tenuous nature of holding political office and the challenges of balancing a visionary agenda with the realities of governance.”
According to CPAC Australia’s public statement, CPAC is a values-based, non-profit conservative organization that upholds the ideals of Howard, Reagan, and Thatcher while exploring new concepts for future generations.
This marks the third CPAC Conference in Australia, following the 2023 CPAC conference in Sydney, where over 40 speakers, including former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbot, participated, as well as the 2022 CPAC Conference, also held in Sydney.
Initially an American event, CPAC’s inaugural conference took place in 1974, featuring U.S. President Ronald Reagan’s keynote speech during his presidential campaign. President Donald Trump’s speech at CPAC 2011 is credited with launching his political career.
