Exploration Costs for Gas in Victoria Surge by Over 300%
The Victorian Labor government has significantly increased gas exploration fees over the past two years despite concerns about a potential gas shortage in the future.
Australian Energy Producers raised alarm over the fee hike, pointing out that the government had pledged to lead gas projects.
“Soaring fee increases for exploration are a huge blow to smaller companies, which will deter investment at a critical time when Victoria needs more gas supply,” the industry group stated on LinkedIn.
“Just weeks ago, the Victorian government pledged to accelerate new gas projects in its Economic Growth Statement.
The main industry body for gas and oil exploration and production also suggested that the government should remove barriers to access gas.
“If the Victorian government is serious about ensuring reliable and affordable energy for homes and businesses, it should be removing obstacles to gas exploration, not adding to them.
