Exploring the Reality of Domestic Violence Before Labeling it a ‘Crisis’
The topic of domestic violence has been prominent in recent headlines, but is there a deeper narrative to explore?

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese may have faced unnecessary backlash by attending the Violence Against Women Rally in Canberra.
Not only did this result in negative press coverage, but the underlying premise of the rally itself was flawed. It was a mistake for him to lend his support to it.
Firstly, regarding the negative press, he had a public dispute with the organizer, Sarah Williams, accusing her of not allowing him or Senator Katy Gallagher to speak, which she vehemently denied.
Subsequently, Mr. Albanese attempted to continue speaking while Williams was visibly upset among fellow protestors, which was not a good look considering the topic of “gendered” violence.
Secondly, the flawed policy and philosophy behind the protest should be addressed.
The notion that domestic violence solely stems from toxic masculinity and misogyny is inaccurate. Embracing this notion hinders us from addressing the actual causes of domestic violence and leads politicians to make unrealistic promises.
