Explosion at Steel Plant in Central Mexico Leaves 12 Dead and 1 Injured
Twelve individuals lost their lives in a fire at a steel plant in central Mexico on Wednesday, with one person sustaining injuries, as per local authorities.
The fire was reported in Xaloztoc, located about 87 miles (140 kilometers) east of Mexico City, by Tlaxcala state Civil Protection shortly after 3 a.m. Another individual was hurt, though their current condition remains unknown.
According to initial reports from workers, an explosion and fire erupted when molten steel came into contact with water, the agency explained in a statement. The fire has been contained, and an investigation is ongoing.
Tlaxcala Governor Lorena Cuellar extended her sympathies to the families of the victims and is set to visit the site.
