Fair Work Commission rejects proposal for 100 percent work from home arrangement
The working from home trend remains prevalent in Australia, though some employers are making changes. The Fair Work Commission (FWC) ruled in favor of a company denying a worker’s request to work from home 100% of the time. The company claimed this would require him to be in the office at least 40% of the time. This decision discourages similar cases. Meanwhile, ANZ Group stated that staff who don’t adhere to the company’s hybrid work policies may lose pay or affect their performance rating. CEO Shayne Elliot said they would like to see more staff in the office, as their current 40% office attendance is much lower than previously. Working from home has grown more popular in Australia, with 70% of remote workers preferring to continue that way. The CBDs of Australian cities still fill only a portion of their office space. Melbourne employees are resistant to return, with only 56% office attendance. WFH is part of the pro-employee movement that includes quiet quitting and layoffs. Unemployment increased by 0.7% and stagflation is on the rise.
