Federal Government Allocates $56 Million to Build New Yukon Convention Centre
The federal government has allocated over $56 million for the construction of a new convention center in Whitehorse, Yukon.
This funding ensures the completion of the Yukon Gathering Place project, which is estimated to cost around $75 million in total.
The remaining costs for the project will be covered by the Yukon government, and the convention center will be situated on the Whitehorse waterfront next to the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre.
Upon completion, the 9,500 square meter convention center with a capacity of up to 1,000 people will be owned by the Kwanlin Dün First Nation.
Yukon Premier Ranj Pillai believes that the new convention center will boost the local economy and employment opportunities, creating a promising future for Yukon residents.
John Streicker, the tourism minister of the territory, stated that the new facility will expand Whitehorse’s ability to host major events, showcase Yukon cultures, and attract visitors from across the globe.
