Former Minister Warns that Investigating Potentially Treasonous MPs May Lead to Unfair Trial
Marco Mendicino, former public safety minister, expressed his concern about the growing public conversation regarding parliamentarians being involved in foreign interference, calling it a “kangaroo court.”
Speaking at a federal inquiry on foreign meddling, Mendicino emphasized the importance of following due process and upholding the law before making any conclusions about the behavior of elected officials.
The National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP) stated in June that some politicians were knowingly or unknowingly participating in foreign interference in Canadian politics.
This statement by NSICOP, comprised of MPs and senators bound by confidentiality, raised concerns about the potential continued influence of individuals involved in such activities still being active in the political arena.
