Former Ontario Liberal MP and Entrepreneur Kim Rudd Passes Away at Age 66

Kim Rudd, a former Liberal MP who represented a southern Ontario riding, has passed away.

According to an online obituary, Rudd lost her battle with ovarian cancer on March 12 at a hospice in Cobourg, Ont.

Rudd, aged 66, served as the Member of Parliament for Northumberland-Peterborough South from 2015 to 2019.

During her time in office, she held the position of parliamentary secretary to the natural resources minister and chaired the Parliamentary Health Research Caucus. She also sat on the House of Commons finance and natural resources committees.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offered his condolences to Rudd’s family and friends, describing her as a “thoughtful and tireless advocate for Canadians.”

“She made significant strides on key matters—from affordable housing to rural broadband to healthcare,” stated Trudeau.

“In her role as parliamentary secretary to the minister of natural resources, she fought for Canadian energy workers and championed climate action.”

Various Liberal cabinet ministers took to social media to offer their condolences, with Karina Gould, government House leader on maternity leave, expressing her gratitude for her relationship with Rudd.

“I had the privilege of knowing Kim on many levels,” Gould shared. “We were not just colleagues but also friends who fought alongside each other. Her advocacy extended to her battle with cancer and her involvement with Ovarian Cancer Canada and women’s health issues.”

Prior to her political career, Rudd led the Northumberland Central Chamber of Commerce and received the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Award for her community leadership. She also co-founded a childcare center in Cobourg.

The obituary highlights Rudd’s extensive public service career and her contributions to local charitable organizations and sports groups.

Rudd is survived by her husband Tom, daughters Alison and Stefanie, and four grandchildren.
