Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko Added to Russia’s Wanted List
Russia has added former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to its wanted list, as reported by Russian state media referencing the Interior Ministry’s database.
According to Russian state news agency Tass, Tymoshenko is wanted on unspecified criminal charges and joins Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and former President Petro Poroshenko on the same list. The list also includes numerous officials and lawmakers from Ukraine and NATO countries.
There has been no immediate comment from Tymoshenko or her Batkivshchyna (the Fatherland) party.
Mediazona, an independent Russian news outlet, reported that Zelenskyy and Poroshenko have been on the wanted list since late February. Among others on the list is Kaja Kallas, the Prime Minister of NATO and EU member Estonia, who has advocated for increased military aid to Kyiv and stronger sanctions against Moscow.
In February, Russian officials stated that Kallas is wanted due to Tallinn’s removal of Soviet-era monuments to Red Army soldiers in Estonia, considered by some as symbols of past oppression.
Russia has laws against the “rehabilitation of Nazism” including punishment for the “desecration” of war memorials.
Also on Russia’s wanted list are cabinet ministers from Estonia and Lithuania, as well as the International Criminal Court prosecutor who prepared a warrant for President Vladimir Putin on war crimes charges last year. Moscow has also charged Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, with what they consider “terrorist” activities, including Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian infrastructure.
