Four Canadian airlines have been honored in an annual survey of the top airlines around the world.
Compiled by air transport rating organization SKYTRAX, the top 100 airlines in the world are determined by customer feedback through an online survey, according to a
media release.
Air Canada improved its ranking from 38 in 2023 to 29 in 2024. Its low-cost brand, Air Canada Rouge, was recognized as one of the best long-haul, low-cost airlines, ranking fourth.
Air Canada also stood out in various categories, such as being the most family-friendly airline in North America, having the best premium economy class onboard catering in North America, boasting the best cabin crew in Canada, and being recognized as the cleanest airline in North America.
“We are thrilled with the results of this year’s Skytrax World Airline Awards, not only for the number of accolades we received but also for acknowledging Air Canada’s leadership in delivering exceptional products and services to our diverse customer base,” mentioned Michael Rousseau, president and CEO of Air Canada, in a company
news release.
“These awards also highlight the commitment, professionalism, and hard work of our 40,000 employees worldwide who safely transport our passengers to their destinations, truly embodying the best of Canada. I am particularly proud to see the exemplary work of our flight attendants and cabin services teams recognized,” he added.
Porter Airlines, established in 2006, saw a significant jump from 99th place in 2023 to 57th in 2024. The airline now operates from Pearson International Airport to various destinations in Canada and the United States.
Porter was also recognized as the best regional airline in North America and as the most improved airline on the continent.
Air Transat, based in Montreal, climbed to the 59th position from 53 in 2023. The carrier was awarded the title of the world’s best leisure airline, a distinction it has previously received five times, in addition to being named the best leisure airline in North America.
Annick Guérard, president and CEO of Transat, expressed gratitude to employees for their dedication.
“Their efforts are at the core of this remarkable achievement, and winning this award for the sixth time underscores the exceptional work of our team and their vital role in our ongoing success,” Ms. Guérard stated in a company
media release.
Westjet also made it to the top 100 list, maintaining its 64th spot from 2023.
Qatar Airways from Saudi Arabia clinched the top position for 2024, a title the airline has claimed seven times before, according to reports.
“This award is a moment of pride for Qatar Airways, and I am honored to share it with my dedicated colleagues,” said Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, group CEO of the airline. “This accolade acknowledges our unwavering commitment to delivering unparalleled service and innovation. We anticipate more triumphs in the future.”
The awards, known as the “Oscars of the aviation industry,” have been running
since 1999. People from over 100 countries participated in the survey, which took place from September 2023 to May 2024. SKYTRAX screens the survey entries from IP addresses and user information, removing any duplicate, suspicious, or ineligible submissions.
