François-Philippe Champagne Supports Mark Carney, Emphasizes Shared Economic Vision

Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne expresses his alignment with Mark Carney’s economic vision and endorses him to become the next Liberal leader and prime minister.

Carney has garnered support from various cabinet ministers and current Liberal MPs in the leadership race.

Both Champagne and Carney addressed the media in Champagne’s Quebec riding of Saint-Maurice—Champlain on Sunday.

Carney affirms his intention to run as a Liberal candidate in the upcoming election, irrespective of the leadership race’s outcome.

One of the requests from fellow leadership contender Chrystia Freeland was for candidates to commit to running in the next election and participating in four leadership debates, which Carney has accepted.

The Liberal party is scheduled to elect its new leader on March 9.

Last week, seven candidates, including MPs Karina Gould, Jaime Battiste, and Chandra Arya, plus former MPs Ruby Dhalla and Frank Baylis, along with Carney and Freeland, submitted paperwork and a $50,000 deposit to be considered for the ballot.
