Frank Stronach, a Canadian entrepreneur, faces charges in a decades-long sexual assault investigation.
The founder of one of Canada’s largest auto parts makers, Frank Stronach, is facing five sex-related offenses involving multiple victims over several decades, according to police. Peel Regional Police announced the charges on Friday, which include one count of rape, one count of indecent assault on a female, one count of forcible confinement, and two counts of sexual assault.
The incidents allegedly occurred between the 1980s and 2023, with more than one complainant involved, as clarified by Const. Tyler Bell. Due to the high-profile nature of the case and to protect the victims’ privacy, police are withholding further details at this time.
Stronach’s defense lawyer, Brian Greenspan, stated that his client denies the allegations and looks forward to fully responding to the charges. Greenspan emphasized Stronach’s philanthropic and business legacy in Canada.
Bell said Stronach was released on conditions and is set to appear at a Brampton, Ont., courthouse on July 8.
A spokesperson for Magna said the company was aware of the charges but clarified that Stronach has not been associated with the organization since 2010. The company will not comment further on the legal matter.
Stronach, originally from Austria, built Magna starting in 1957, becoming one of Canada’s wealthiest individuals. He also founded other companies focusing on horse racing, organic foods, and micro-electric mobility. After resigning from Magna in 2011, he pursued political aspirations in Austria.
Stronach’s daughter, Belinda Stronach, was a former Canadian politician who switched parties from Conservative to Liberal. In 2018, Frank Stronach sued his daughter, grandchildren, and a business associate for mismanagement of the family’s assets, a lawsuit that was settled in 2020.
