Freeland Unveils Leadership Campaign Video Centered on Trump

Chrystia Freeland, the former deputy prime minister, has unveiled her inaugural leadership campaign video following her announcement to run for the position to succeed Justin Trudeau. The video centers around President-Elect Donald Trump.

“Donald Trump doesn’t have a high opinion of me,” Freeland states at the commencement of the video, shared on the X platform on Jan. 18.

Reflecting on her tenure as the foreign affairs minister during the negotiations of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) in Trump’s previous term, she remarked, “Throughout the first Trump administration, I vigorously defended Canadian jobs, the economy, and our values, and we emerged victorious.”

Freeland condemned Trump and his wealthy associates for believing they could intimidate Canada. She refuted Trump’s notion that Canada was available for purchase, referring to his comments about Canada becoming the 51st state of the U.S.

Expressing her pride in Canada, Freeland affirmed, “We are a nation of integrity: the true north, resilient and liberated, a nation populated by intelligent, compassionate, and industrious individuals, a nation that achieves great feats, a nation worth fighting for.”

“This juncture is significant for all of us. I am vying for the leadership of the Liberal Party and the upcoming prime minister. My purpose is to advocate for you, for Canadians, for Canada,” she concluded.
