French President Macron Decides to Hold Snap Legislative Election Following Loss in EU Vote
French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Sunday that he will dissolve the National Assembly and call for a snap legislative election following his party’s significant loss in the European Parliament elections.
Speaking from the Elysee presidential palace, Macron stated, “I’ve decided to let you decide our parliamentary future through voting. Therefore, I am dissolving the National Assembly.” The election will be held in two rounds on June 30 and July 7.
This decision comes after initial results in France showed the right-wing National Rally party leading in the European Parliament elections, defeating Macron’s pro-European centrist party, according to French poll institutes.
