G7 Leaders Criticize China’s Unfair Trade Practices and Backing of Russia
The G7 countries have pledged to continue taking measures against actors in China that significantly support Russia’s war efforts.
In a statement released during their summit in PUGLIA, Italy, the G7 leaders expressed their commitment to addressing China’s unfair trade practices and its support for Russia’s military activities.
The leaders expressed deep concern over Beijing’s backing of Russia’s defense base, which enables Russia’s illegal actions in Ukraine.
A draft summit communiqué reviewed by The Epoch Times called on China to stop transferring dual-use materials that support Russia’s defense industry.
The G7 leaders also promised to take action against entities in China that significantly aid Russia’s war efforts, including banks and institutions that assist in acquiring defense-related items for Russia.
Another key issue discussed at the summit was China’s overcapacity problem, with the leaders noting that Chinese policies undermine workers, industries, and economic resilience in G7 countries.
The leaders pledged to strengthen diplomatic efforts and international collaboration to promote fair practices and resistance to economic coercion.

They also urged fair practices and addressed China’s industrial overcapacity issue in key sectors like solar panels, wind turbines, and EVs.
The draft communique called on China to avoid export control measures that could disrupt the global supply chain, particularly regarding critical minerals.
The leaders raised concerns about human rights issues in China, including forced labor in Tibet and Xinjiang, and the suppression of autonomy in Hong Kong.
They also expressed worry over China’s expanding nuclear arsenal and reiterated the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, urging a peaceful resolution to cross-Strait issues.
The G7 leaders strongly opposed any unilateral attempts to alter the status quo through force or coercion in the East and South China Seas.
