German Police Shoot Armed Teenager Outside Israeli Consulate in Munich
The Israeli Foreign Ministry has confirmed that its consulate in Munich, Bavaria, was closed during the incident, and their staff were unharmed.
Police in Munich have fatally shot an armed teenager near the Israeli consulate in the city.
The suspect, identified as an 18-year-old Austrian national, was carrying an old rifle, according to Munich police.
Officers were alerted to the man carrying a weapon in the Karolinenplatz area, near downtown Munich, at around 9 a.m., said police spokesman Andreas Franken.
Bavaria’s interior minister, Joachim Herrmann, reported that the man fired at police, who returned fire, resulting in his death. No other casualties were reported.
The suspect’s identity and motive are currently unknown, and he was carrying an old firearm with a repeating mechanism.
