Government Advises to Stock Up on Emergency Supplies for Potential Crisis
The government advises Britons to have a stockpile of three days’ worth of non-perishable food at home for emergencies like power outages or other crises.
It is recommended that Britons take measures to prepare for emergencies by ensuring they have at least a three-day supply of food and water at home, as well as access to communication in case of power or internet outages, according to Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden.
Dowden highlighted the lack of preparedness among most Britons, citing a survey that revealed only 15% have an emergency supply kit, while over 40% do not have three days’ worth of non-perishable food and water.
The deputy prime minister stressed the importance of taking proactive steps to enhance resilience at home and urged all households to consider their preparedness.
He mentioned that other countries openly discuss emergency preparedness, citing Finland’s “National Preparedness Day” as an example.
