Government Urged to Enhance Inquiry Following Conviction of Nurse Letby, Serial Baby-Killer
The government has mandated an independent inquiry on Friday following the conviction of neonatal nurse Lucy Letby for the murder of seven babies in a span of around one year. However, the non-statutory inquiry has been deemed insufficient by some lawyers representing the families of the victims, who are calling for a comprehensive public inquiry that would hold greater authority. Letby, 33, had worked in a specialized unit for premature babies at the Countess of Chester Hospital in northern England. She has been found guilty of murdering seven infants and attempting to murder six others between June 2015 and June 2016. According to court proceedings, Letby employed various methods to kill the infants, including injecting air into their bloodstream, introducing air into their stomach, poisoning them with insulin, overfeeding them with milk, or manipulating their feeding or breathing tubes.
