Guarding Lives: Security Guard with Blood Protection in Bondi Stabbing Incident
The 30-year-old refugee, Faraz Tahir, tragically lost his life on his first day as a security guard at Westfield Bondi Junction, where Queensland man Joel Cauchi carried out a deadly attack.
Despite being a security guard, Faraz Tahir was more than just that to his family. His eldest brother, Muzafar Ahmad Tahir, described him as a stranger to most but someone who was willing to give his life to protect the public.
Arriving in Australia in 2022 after fleeing persecution in Pakistan, Faraz Tahir saw Australia as his final home. He was the only male victim of the Bondi Junction attack.
The lives of five other individuals were also lost in the tragic incident. NSW Police Inspector Amy Scott ended the rampage by shooting the attacker on level five of the complex.
Instead of celebrating his 31st birthday, Faraz Tahir’s family mourned his loss, flying in from overseas to see his body for the first time.
Remembered for his protective nature, his brother Mudasar Bashir shared that it was no surprise that Faraz Tahir took heroic actions that day.
Despite the shock of his death, his family could not deny the reality and were preparing for his funeral at a mosque in Sydney.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and NSW Premier Chris Minns were invited to the funeral, symbolizing the impact Faraz Tahir had on the nation.
The re-opening of the Bondi Junction shopping centre followed a day of community reflection after the tragic event.
