Halifax MP Fillmore Announces Departure from Federal Politics in Anticipation of Potential Mayoral Bid
Liberal MP Andy Fillmore announces that he will not be returning to the House of Commons in the upcoming fall session.
Mr. Fillmore was initially elected as MP for Halifax during the 2015 election that marked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s rise to power.
A former city planner, Mr. Fillmore is anticipated to enter the mayoral race in Halifax for the municipal election scheduled for this October.
In his farewell speech in the House, Mr. Fillmore expresses his focus on the future and the ongoing work needed for Halifax.
He affirms his commitment to addressing issues such as the development of Canada Post lands in the city for housing purposes.
Throughout his tenure in Parliament, Mr. Fillmore held roles as parliamentary secretary to several ministers, including those overseeing democratic institutions, Canadian heritage, infrastructure, and industry.
