Hamas and Fatah Join Forces in Beijing to Plan Formation of Unified Government
Israel strongly opposes the idea of a Palestinian government that includes Hamas.
During negotiations sponsored by the Chinese regime, various Palestinian factions, including Hamas and Fatah, have signed the Beijing Declaration to form a joint government.
The declaration, signed in China’s capital, commits to establishing an “interim national reconciliation government” to rule Gaza after a cease-fire is reached between Israel and Hamas.
However, Israel has criticized Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas for seeking to co-govern Gaza with Hamas, which triggered the current conflict on Oct. 7, 2023.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz denounced the idea of a Palestinian government inclusive of Hamas, stating that Hamas’s rule will be crushed and Israel’s security will remain in its hands.
As negotiations continue between Israel and Hamas, the declaration also signals China’s expanding influence in the Middle East as it seeks to mediate conflicts and establish diplomatic relations with key players in the region.
