Hand-Held Steam Cleaner Recalled Across Canada Due to Potential Burn Hazard
Health Canada is issuing a recall for a brand of hand-held steam cleaners due to reports of burn injuries caused by escaping steam or hot water.
According to Health Canada, more than 350,000 Bissell-branded Steam Shot hand-held steam cleaners are being recalled because they may pose a burn hazard when steam is released or when the water heats up during use. The advisory was updated on Feb. 20 and can be found here.
Last year, the product was initially recalled across North America, affecting over 3 million units due to the risk of burns. The Michigan-based company had received 44 incident reports and 37 injury reports in Canada by Aug. 31, 2024. The recall affects models series 2994 (including 2994B, 2994C, and 2994D) and model series 39N7 (including 39N7C, 39N7E, 39N7H, 39N7J, and 39N7X). The model information is printed on the product’s label at the bottom.
The recalled steamers, which were sold between August 2008 and May 2024, come in white, grey, green, and blue colors and have “steam shot” printed on the side. They were manufactured in China and distributed by the company’s Canadian branch in Mississauga, Ont. More information can be found here.
Health Canada is advising the public to immediately stop using and unplug the recalled products. Customers can contact the company to receive a replacement model or a digital credit for Bissell Canada, as stated by the agency.

Owners of the affected products can receive an $82 digital credit or a $55 refund within six weeks of submitting their product information, according to the company’s recall information. Digital credits are non-transferrable and non-refundable.
To submit the product information, owners should take a photo of the sticker on the bottom of the steamer and, if possible, move it to the side of the machine. They should then cut the steamer’s cord near the base using standard scissors, take a photo showing both the product label and the cut cord, and submit it by filling out a form on the company’s website.
Users are advised not to dispose of the product until they receive their refund or credit, as per the company’s instructions.
