Here’s What’s Wrong with Thousands of Vehicles Recalled in Canada in 2025
Multiple car manufacturers have recently issued new recalls or updates to existing ones in Canada, affecting thousands of vehicles. Common issues include malfunctioning headlamps, faulty rear view cameras, defective power transfer units, and corroding brakes.
Below are some of the vehicles impacted by recalls this year.
Ford
Ford updated a recall issued on Dec. 20 last year, affecting 24,495 vehicles due to a possible failure of their high-pressure fuel pump. This could lead to engine issues and a possible loss of power, posing an accident risk. Owners will be notified by mail to visit a dealership for software updates.
Another recall updated by Ford on the following day affects 8,825 vehicles due to high-voltage battery concerns.
One of the recalls by Ford is related to a software problem causing a short circuit in batteries, resulting in power loss and fire risks. Models affected include 2020-2024 Ford Escape and 2021-2023 Lincoln Corsair plug-in hybrid vehicles.
Tesla
Tesla updated a recall issued on Jan. 22 for 24,733 vehicles with malfunctioning rear view cameras. A software issue may cause a short circuit, reducing the driver’s visibility while reversing.
The recall impacts 2024 and 2025 Model 3, Model S, Model X, and Model Y vehicles.
General Motors
General Motors updated a recall issued nearly a year ago, affecting 273,306 vehicles due to a software problem causing headlamps to fail at night. The issue can reduce visibility and increase accident risks.
The recall includes certain Brightdrop, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC vehicles from 2020 to 2024.
Fiat Chrysler
Fiat Chrysler updated a recall for Jeep Cherokee vehicles from 2017-2019, involving faulty power transfer units leading to power loss or unintended movement.
The recall only affects vehicles with a two-speed PTU.
Kia
Kia updated two recalls for Sorento and Niro vehicles due to software problems affecting headlamps, tail lamps, and braking systems.
Another recall by Kia for EV9 vehicles from 2024-2025 involves missing bolts in second or third row seats, posing a detachment risk in a crash.
