Hudson’s Bay Cuts 41 Jobs Due to Difficult Business Conditions
Hudson’s Bay has laid off 41 staff members as part of a restructuring effort, according to Charla Parkinson, a spokesperson for the department store chain. The specific roles and locations of the affected staff were not disclosed.
Parkinson attributed the layoffs to the “challenging headwinds” facing the retail industry and emphasized that while the decision was difficult, it was necessary for the Toronto-based company.
Last April, Hudson’s Bay laid off about one percent of its workforce, followed by additional cuts in the summer as it prepared to spin out some brands into a new entity named Saks Global. In November, the company also decided to withdraw from operating a store at the redeveloped Oakridge Park in Vancouver.
