Hudson’s Bay Set to Reinstate Commission for Employees: Unifor

Unifor has announced that Hudson’s Bay has reversed its decision to discontinue commission payments to employees.

Dwayne Gunness, President of Unifor Local 40, stated that the liquidating company informed staff last week that commission payments would resume, following the announcement to end them on April 20.

While workers are pleased with this decision, concerns about their future remain, as Hudson’s Bay is shutting down its 80 stores, in addition to 16 others operating under the Saks brand.

According to Gunness, those who earned commissions were often located in the cosmetics department or selling high-ticket items like appliances and suits.

The commission structure entailed an additional percentage on top of their base salary.

Hudson’s Bay has not yet responded to requests for comments regarding Unifor’s statements, which represent approximately 595 HBC employees within Ontario stores and those at the company’s fulfilment centers.
