Igloo Coolers Recalled in Canada and US Due to Reports of Fingertip Amputations

An urgent recall has been issued across North America for towable Igloo coolers following multiple reports of fingertip amputations and bone fractures.

Igloo is recalling more than one million of its 90-quart wheeled coolers in Canada, the United States, and Mexico after the company received reports of cooler tow handles causing severe injuries.

The tow handle of 46 models of Igloo’s 90 Qt Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers has the potential to pinch users’ fingertips against the cooler, posing “fingertip amputation and crushing hazards,” a Feb. 13 notice from Health Canada said.
The Texas-based company had not received any reports of injuries in Canada as of Feb. 3, but received 12 reports of fingertip injuries in the United States, including cases of amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations.

Approximately 47,000 units of the affected products were sold in Canada, 1,060,000 were sold in the United States, and 23,000 were sold in Mexico between May 2019 and February 2025, the advisory said.

Each of the recalled coolers is equipped with a tow handle, Health Canada said. The word “IGLOO” appears on the side of each of the coolers, which were available in various combinations of body and lid colours. All of the coolers were manufactured prior to January 2024.
