Increased Pro-Life MP Representation Expected in Ottawa Following Election, Reports Non-Profit
The recent federal election in Canada saw an increase in the number of pro-life MPs elected, with all existing pro-life incumbents being re-elected, as reported by Campaign Life Coalition (CLC).
According to CLC, a pro-life non-profit organization, 42 candidates it endorsed were elected in the April 28 election, which includes six newly elected pro-life MPs, all from the Conservative Party.
“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the six new pro-life MPs who ran outstanding campaigns and encourage them to advocate for the pro-life perspective in our nation’s decision-making processes,” CLC stated.
The organization criticized the major political parties in Canada for having “turned their backs on the over 100,000 preborn children targeted annually by abortion.”
CLC also raised concerns regarding the Liberal Party’s election platform that promises taxpayer funding for abortions both domestically and internationally.
The Liberal Party has prohibited pro-life candidates from seeking election under its banner, while the Conservatives remain open to candidates with diverse views on the matter but have clarified that they do not plan to impose any limitations on abortion.
In Canada, abortion remains legal throughout all stages of pregnancy.
