Internal Memo Warns NDP Candidates to Be Prepared for Possible Election Call on March 10

An internal memo to federal NDP candidates and their campaign staff reveals that they should be ready for a federal election call as early as March 10, the day after the Liberals announce their new leader.

The memo, sent by the NDP’s national campaign director, Jennifer Howard, to approximately 140 nominated candidates, also criticizes the Liberal government for potentially exploiting a trade war with the United States for political gain.

It suggests that the chances of former central banker Mark Carney winning the Liberal leadership race are increasing, with rumors circulating that he may call for a snap election.

Furthermore, the memo highlights the need to recall Parliament to mount a swift and unified response against U.S. tariff threats. It expresses disappointment that no Liberal leadership candidate has reached out to opposition leaders to discuss emergency legislation.

While U.S. tariffs on Canadian imports have been delayed until at least March 4, additional levies on steel and aluminum exports to the U.S., including from Canada, are scheduled to take effect on March 12.
