Interpol Identifies Over 1,500 Stolen Canadian Vehicles Since February

Interpol reports that more than 200 stolen Canadian vehicles are recovered each week worldwide since February.

The international law enforcement agency reveals that over 1,500 vehicles have been identified due to the RCMP’s decision to integrate Canada’s stolen vehicle database with Interpol’s earlier this year.

Interpol’s database, which gathers data from 137 countries, shows that Canada ranks in the top 10 countries for stolen vehicles this year.

The organization notes that Canada’s abundance of popular models like SUVs and crossovers attracts thieves who often transport them to the Middle East and West Africa for trade or resale.

Interpol’s secretary general, Jurgen Stock, states in a news release on May 22 that stolen vehicles serve as a significant revenue source for transnational criminal groups.

Stock adds that stolen vehicles are used not only for drug trafficking but also as payment to other criminal networks.
