Investigation of Pearson Airport Plane Crash Ongoing, Black Box Recovered
Investigations are ongoing at Toronto’s Pearson airport following the fiery crash landing of a Delta Air Lines plane carrying 80 people. Delays are expected to continue today as authorities work to determine the cause of the incident.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada indicated on Tuesday that they have retrieved the plane’s black box for analysis, but it is too early to pinpoint the reasons behind the crash.
The aircraft wreckage is anticipated to remain on the runway for approximately 48 hours as investigators conduct their examination, according to airport officials.
In a social media update, the airport disclosed that a portion of the 950 scheduled flights for Wednesday is experiencing delays and cancellations. As of 7 a.m., five percent of departures and six percent of arrivals had been called off.
Delta Flight 4819 from Minneapolis to Toronto encountered the crash during landing at around 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Passengers had to evacuate the overturned plane while firefighters extinguished the flames.
Delta reported that 19 out of 21 passengers who were initially hospitalized in the Toronto area have now been discharged.
