Iranian Satellite Successfully Launched into Orbit by Russian Rocket
MOSCOW – A Russian rocket successfully placed an Iranian satellite into orbit on Thursday, highlighting the growing cooperation between Moscow and Tehran.
Russia’s state-owned Roscosmos corporation announced that a Soyuz rocket took off from the Vostochny launch site in the far east of the country to transport the Iranian satellite along with 18 Russian satellites into orbit.
According to Iranian state television, the 110-kilogram (242-pound) satellite is equipped with three cameras for environmental, agricultural, and other purposes.
Iran’s state television reported that the satellite will orbit the North and South Poles, synchronized to maintain a fixed position relative to the Sun, and will become fully operational after system calibration.
This launch follows Russia’s placement of the Iranian Khayyam satellite into orbit in 2022.
Iran’s Minister of Communications, Isa Zarepour, mentioned that Iran’s space program has completed a total of 23 launches, with 12 occurring during President Ebrahim Raisi’s term.
