Is Trump’s Implementation of Reciprocal Tariffs Marking a New Chapter in Trade Relations?

The Tariff Act of 1789 marked a significant milestone as the first major legislation passed by the Congress. It aimed to foster economic growth and prosperity for businesses. Throughout history, tariffs have played a pivotal role in shaping U.S. trade policy, though their significance diminished in the mid-1900s.
Fast forward to 2025, President Donald Trump made waves by announcing the imposition of a 10 percent baseline tariff on all imports, with even higher rates for 60 countries identified as the “worst offenders.”
Trump’s objective is to rectify what he perceives as decades of unfair trade practices that have put American workers and industries at a disadvantage. The question remains: Will these tariffs usher in a new era of economic independence and pave the way for a “Golden Age” in America?
