Israeli Hero Anticipates More War in the Future

TEL AVIV—In 1967, Then-Major Eliezer ‘Cheetah’ Cohen boldly rewrote Israel’s map by unilaterally occupying much of the Golan Heights just before a U.N. ceasefire went into effect, a move that is still relevant today. As he analyzes the current conflict with Hamas and predicts a future war with Hezbollah, Cohen’s insights shed light on Israel’s strategic thinking.

Cohen, now in his tenth decade, still holds pride in his past actions and those of his nation. He warns of a looming war in the Middle East within five to 10 years, initiated by Iran against its Sunni Arab rivals, a conflict that could involve Israel due to its nuclear capabilities.

Predicting an IDF attack on Rafah to finish off Hamas, Cohen emphasizes the strategic importance of victory in that region. He foresees a subsequent all-out war with Hezbollah in the north, a conflict that Israel is prepared to engage in and resolve.

Reflecting on his past experiences in Lebanon and Israel’s history of bold actions, Cohen highlights the country’s commitment to defending itself and ensuring its safety.

From his humble beginnings as a Jewish Palestinian refugee to his distinguished military career and later roles in civil aviation and politics, Cohen’s journey mirrors Israel’s own evolution. With a blend of simplicity and foresight, he offers strategic insights into Israel’s past and future challenges, underscoring the nation’s resilience and determination.
