Israeli Military Official Reports Israeli Forces Capture Senior Hezbollah Operative in North Lebanon
In BATROUN, Lebanon, a senior Hezbollah operative was captured by Israeli naval forces in north Lebanon, according to an Israeli military official on Saturday. The conflict between the Iran-backed group and Israel continues with little signs of easing.
Lebanese authorities are investigating whether Israel was involved in the capture of a Lebanese sea captain taken by armed men who landed near Batroun on Friday.
The military official stated, “The operative has been taken to Israeli territory for investigation,” without revealing the detained person’s name.
This operation marks the first time Israel has deployed troops deep into northern Lebanon to capture a senior Hezbollah operative since the conflict escalated in late September. Israeli forces conducted a ground invasion of southern Lebanon and increased airstrikes across the country, including southern Beirut and the eastern Bekaa valley, resulting in the deaths of most of Hezbollah’s senior commanders.
Hezbollah released a statement condemning the “Zionist aggression in the Batroun area,” but did not provide details or confirm if a Hezbollah member had been captured by Israel.
