Kremlin Refutes Claims of Trump and Putin Conversation Following US Presidential Election
The Washington Post reported that Trump had a conversation with Putin after winning the U.S. election.
The Kremlin has denied reports from Western media outlets that Russian President Vladimir Putin and President-elect Donald Trump had a discussion following Trump’s election victory.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov refuted these claims.
“There was no conversation,” stated Peskov in comments released by Russia’s TASS news agency on Nov. 11.
“These reports are completely false and fictional.”
The Epoch Times reached out to the Trump team for a comment on the alleged post-election conversation, but no response was received by the time of publication.
Tass reported that Trump and Putin have not spoken since July 2020, towards the end of Trump’s first presidential term, and mentioned that Putin also wished Trump a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in 2021 towards the end of that term.
Journalist Bob Woodward, in his recent book “War,” alleged that Trump and Putin communicated at various points after Trump’s presidency ended.
Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung labeled Woodward’s reporting as false, with Peskov also rejecting the allegation.
Throughout his presidency campaign, Trump indicated his intentions to work towards a swift resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his opposition to ending the war by giving in to Russian demands.
“There should be no misunderstanding that by showing weakness or compromising on European positions or any European country’s standing, peace can be achieved. It simply doesn’t work that way. Peace is earned only by the strong,” Zelenskyy stated in a Nov. 7 address at the European Political Community Summit in Budapest, Hungary.
“We cannot predict [Trump’s] actions. But we hope that America will become stronger. That’s the kind of America Europe needs. And a strong Europe is what America needs, in my opinion. This alliance between allies must be cherished and not lost,” Zelenskyy added.
With uncertainty surrounding Trump’s plans for Ukraine, the Biden administration has indicated efforts to provide maximum U.S. aid to Ukraine before the transition of power.
