Kyiv Reports Dozens Injured in Russian Missile Strike on Ukraine’s Sumy Region
Fighting in Russia’s Kursk region near Sumy in Ukraine is ongoing, as per Moscow officials.
Ukrainian officials reported that Russian missiles injured dozens of people in a district of Sumy on March 24. According to the Governor of Sumy region, Volodymyr Artiukh, a total of 88 people, including children, were injured in the missile strike. He mentioned that two schools were within the impact zone but all children were rescued and evacuated to safety before the attack.
Artem Kobzar, acting mayor of Sumy, said that an industrial facility in Sumy was also targeted by Russian missiles. The situation remains grim as top officials from Russia and the US meet in Riyadh to discuss a possible cease-fire between Russia and Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of prolonging the war and inflicting suffering on their people. He emphasized the need for strong measures to bring peace.
While Ukrainian claims could not be independently verified, tensions continue to escalate as the conflict persists in the region.
The Ukrainian forces are trying to gain control in Sudzha, Kursk, according to Russian officials. They are looking to establish a buffer zone in Sumy to prevent Ukrainian artillery attacks on civilian infrastructure in Kursk.
Russian security officials claim that Ukrainian forces are being expelled from strategic areas in Sudzha. They accuse Ukraine of drone attacks on critical infrastructure in Russia, creating concerns about oil supplies in global markets.
Amid these conflicts, efforts are ongoing to find a resolution to the escalating crisis.
