Le Premier ministre français s’adressera à l’Assemblée nationale du Québec aujourd’hui et rencontrera le Premier ministre.
French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal is set to speak at Quebec’s legislature on the afternoon of April 11.
This will be the first time a foreign leader addresses the province’s legislature since former French president François Hollande spoke to the national assembly in 2014.
According to Jacques Palard, a French political scientist, this visit signifies the French government’s intent to fortify relations with Quebec.
Palard mentions that this trip marks Attal’s first journey outside of Europe since he took office as prime minister in January.
Prior to the Quebec visit, Attal met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on April 11 and expressed his support for a neutral stance towards Quebec independence.
Attal is also scheduled to meet with Quebec Premier François Legault on April 11 and April 12, marking the first official meetings between a Quebec premier and a French prime minister since 2018.
