Lee Hanson Embraces Politics on Her Own Terms, Breaking Away from Her Mother’s Shadow
Lee Hanson, daughter of One Nation leader Pauline Hanson, has officially entered the political arena by launching her campaign for a Senate seat in Tasmania on April 3. Despite her mother’s influence, Lee is determined to carve out her own path.
Lee emphasized, “My mother is polarizing. I’m not my mother. I’m very different. But I appreciate she’s taught me the values of honesty, integrity, to stand up and give a voice to those who don’t feel they have a voice.”
Described as a no-nonsense local, a mother, and a straightforward communicator, Lee leads One Nation’s Tasmanian Senate team for 2025. Her campaign focuses on firsthand experiences with issues like hospital crises, education system failures, cost of living increases, and housing shortages in Tasmania.
One of Lee’s key policy proposals includes advocating for income splitting for couples with children to alleviate their tax burden through joint tax returns. She also supports halving fuel excises as proposed by the Coalition.
Senator Pauline Hanson, meanwhile, is working on sharpening One Nation’s national election platform. She has called for cuts to government spending on climate initiatives, public servants, and indigenous Australian agencies to ease cost-of-living pressures. Hanson outlined a plan to slash up to $90 billion from government spending at One Nation’s Queensland Senate campaign launch in Cairns.
One Nation’s agenda also includes withdrawing Australia from international organizations, cutting funding for multicultural programs and NDIS expenditures, and abolishing the National Indigenous Australians Agency and the Department of Climate Change. Senator Hanson asserts that the aim is to reduce wasteful spending and address inefficiencies within the public sector.
As the election approaches, polls suggest a possible hung parliament, indicating potential influence for One Nation in shaping national policies. Despite the pursuit of political power, Senator Hanson emphasizes that the party’s campaign is ultimately about representing and fighting for everyday Australians.
