Leona Alleslev, the former Conservative leadership candidate, considering a return to Parliament
Leona Alleslev, a former ranking Conservative MP, is seeking to rejoin the party in the upcoming election.
After serving as an MP for six years and briefly considering a leadership position, Alleslev is now aiming for the party’s nomination in Kingston and the Islands.
In 2015, she was elected as a Liberal MP but later switched to the Conservative party in 2018, citing concerns over the Liberals’ management of the economy and foreign affairs.
Although she was re-elected as a Conservative in 2019 and appointed as the deputy leader under Andrew Scheer, Alleslev lost her seat to Liberal MP Leah Taylor Roy in 2021.
In 2022, Alleslev announced her intention to run for party leadership but had to withdraw due to insufficient funds to meet the entry requirements.
