Liberal Government introducing $500 million fund for youth mental health

Ottawa is establishing a $500-million fund to assist community health organizations in delivering enhanced mental health services to young individuals.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland is unveiling this initiative in Ottawa alongside other cabinet ministers.

During the 2021 election campaign, the Liberals pledged a similar fund for post-secondary institutions to support the mental well-being of students.

This fund represents the most recent in a series of campaign-like, pre-budget announcements from the Liberal government.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has emphasized that the budget will primarily focus on youth—specifically aiding them in acquiring affordable housing through ownership or rental options.

Ms. Freeland is scheduled to present the federal budget on April 16.
