Liberal MP Apologizes for Causing Distress to Witnesses Who Left Meeting in Tears
Liberal MP Anita Vandenbeld did not apologize today after causing a disturbance that led two witnesses to leave a parliamentary committee hearing.
Vandenbeld expressed deep regret for the distress caused to the witnesses on July 31.
The MP redirected the House of Commons status of women committee meeting away from the planned discussion on domestic violence, accusing Conservatives of rushing the agenda.
She accused Tories of politicizing the issue and swiftly changed the topic to abortion rights, just after hearing detailed testimony on intimate partner abuse.
Advocates Cait Alexander and Megan Walker left the meeting in frustration as chaos ensued, with Alexander accusing Vandenbeld of “abusive” behavior.
