Liberal MP from Northwest Territories, who served for a long time, will not run for re-election

Liberal MP Michael McLeod has announced that he will not seek a fourth term in the upcoming federal election, describing the decision as “bittersweet.”

First elected as the MP for Northwest Territories in 2015, Mr. McLeod currently serves on the House Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee.

He plans to fulfill his duties as an MP until the next election, which is scheduled to take place before fall of 2025, continuing to advocate for the territory until his term concludes.

Mr. McLeod expresses his intention to reduce his travel, spend more time in the North, and focus on his grandchildren, whom he now considers the center of his universe.

He believes that elections are opportunities for renewal and feels that it is time for him to pass on the torch.

Mr. McLeod is among a group of at least 13 other Liberal MPs who have recently announced that they will not seek re-election.
